Highlights of Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya 605th Jayanthi Festival

Sri Venkateswara Annamacharya Society of America commemorated the 605th Jayanthi of Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya with Sri Venkateswara Sankeerthana Kalyanothsavam on 19 -25 May 2013
at the SVASA premises Riverside and at The Mandir,
1732 Reynold's Ave., Irvine CA, USA and Laxminarayan Mandir, 5252 Magnolia Ave., Riverside

It is believed that the Sri Venkateswara Kalyanothsavam (Padmavathi Srinivasa Kalyanam) was introduced by Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya.  He composed scores of Kalyanothsavam Sankeerthanas and it is believed that Annamacharya used to recite these Sankeerthanas while performing the Padmavathi Srinivasa Kalyanam.  In an attempt to bring the reminiscence of the Kalyanothsavam performed by Annamacharya, Sri Venkateswara Annamacharya Society of America first introduced the Sankeerthana Kalyanothsavam with recital of Annamacharya Sankeerthanas at each Ghattam (Step) of the Kalyanothsavam as part of the 603rd Jayanthi festival on 21 May 2011 in Los Angeles. This is the third consecutive year that SVASA perofrmed the Sankeerthana Kalyanothsavam as part of the Annamacharya Jayanthi Festival.

The festival started at the Irvine Mandir on 19 May at 8am with devotees singing Gurudeva Prardhana (Sreemathvadeeya) followed by Uregimpu of Sri Venkateswara and Annamacharya around the temple with the musicians rendering the music in tandem to the chants of “Govinda! Govinda!”.   Later the devotees gathered at the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and honored Annamacharya by singing numerous Sankeerthanas. Satya Duvvuri, president of the organization, briefly presented the outline of day's events and an introduction on Annamcharya, his life and works before starting Srivari Kalyanothsavam.  This was followed by the performance of Kalyanothsavam with steps (Ghattams) Ankurarpana, Rakhsa Bandhanam, Kanya Daanam, Jeelakara Bellam, Mangala Suthra Dharanam and Talambralu etc

Uregimpu and Kalyanam in Sankerrthana Kalyanothsavam

As the priest conducted and explained the religious and social significance of each step of the Kalyanam (wedding), Satya Duvvuri presented the matching Annamacharya composition explaining the meaning and significance and the musicians laced it with their melodious renderings.  The appeal was magical to all the devotees who participated in the Sannkeerthana Kalyanothsavam. Their thoughts were uplifted to a completely transformed level of
consciousness.  In 2011, when SVASA performed this first time ever Sankeerthana Kalyanothsavam, the words "Na Bhootho Na Bhavishyathi" came out of their hearts meaning "Never Was, and Never Will Be" an event like this.
