Highlights of Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya 609th Jayanthi Festival

Sri Venkateswara Annamacharya Society of America commemorated the 609th Jayanthi of Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya during 6-13 May 2017
at the SVASA premises, Riverside and at Shri Lakshmi Narayan Mandir, Riverside, CA, USA.

This year is the 27th year in a row that the organization commemorated the Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya Jayanthi.  The Jaynathi Commemoration Festival started on 6 May at SVASA premises, Riverside, and concluded with the Sri Venkateswara Sankeerthana Kalyanothsavam performed by SVASA at the Shri Lakshmi Narayan Mandir, Riverside, CA on 13 May.  Annamacharya composed scores of Kalyanothsavam Sankeerthanas and it is believed that Annamacharya used to recite these Sankeerthanas while performing the Padmavathi Srinivasa Kalyanam.  SVASA continued the tradition introduced by SVASA in 2011, of performing Kalyanothsavan with Annamacharya Sankeerthana recital at each Ghattam of the Kalyanothsavam, in an attempt to enable devotees imagine the Kalyanothsavam performed by Annamacharya 600 years back. Sri Venkateswara Annamacharya Society of America performed the Sri Venkateswara Sankeerthana Kalyanothsavam during the Jayanthi festival with recital of Annamacharya Sankeerthanas at each Ghattam (Step) of the Kalyanothsavam.

The commemoration festival started on 6 May at 7am in the organization's premises in Riverside with Sri Venkateswara Suprabhatham followed by Sri Venkateswara Namocharana, Gurudeva Prardhana (SreeMathvadeeya), and Guru Sthuthi Sankeerthanam.  The Sankeerthnam was done again in the evening and Mangala Haarathi and Prasadam were offered to the Almighty before closing the first day's events.  The same routine was followed thru 12 May at the SVASA premises.

The festival continued at the Shri Lakshmi Narayan Mandir on 13 May from 5am to 6pm with devotees singing Annamacharya Melukolupu Sakeerthana to Sri Venkateswara followed by Suprabhatham and Darsanam of Srivaru at the sanctum Sanctorium.  The devotees recited Gurudeva Prardhana (Sreemathvadeeya) and and honored Annamacharya by singing four Sankeerthanas on Annamacharya followed by traditional procession Urigempu of Sri Venkateswara and Annamacharya around the temple with Nagara Sankeerthanam, the musicians rendering the music in tandem to the chants of Govinda! Govinda!.   Later the devotees gathered near the Kalyana Mantapam  specially erected for the Sankeerthana Kalyanothsavam. The president of the organization, briefly presented the outline of day's events and an introduction on Annamacharya, his life and works before starting Srivari Kalyanothsavam.
